Shit's Not the Same, Things Done Changed

As sit at work listening to “Golden Era” hits (hiphop cuts from mid-late 90s) from my Nokia, I reminisce the days I sat in a black 1991 civic sedan lowered on some chopped springs. The car belonged to my friend’s brother Jon B. Most of my middle school years, I was driven home from school in this car. It was here with my friends Zac and Ray, I was introduced to this music that has up to this day, influence my thoughts and keeps my mind thinking at tip top condition. The blurps of “DJ Premier, P-P-P Premier, Premier, DJ Premier, Premier,” has a home in my memory cortex forever.
LP’s like Soundbombing II, New York Reality Check 101, Resurrection, I Got Next, and many others, stimulated my mind to metaphorically think about life and everything I do. CD’s like that never got phased out, they are always on rotation when new shit fail to impress me. But…shit’s different.

Majority of hiphop nowadays are about whoring females, toting a chain, counting cash, and driving cars that none of the listeners will ever drive. Where it used to be about reppin’ your crew, city, and how dope you are, it is now about how much ends you got.
Anyways I’m not complaining how Hiphop should be or whatevers cause I don’t have the credits make any remarkable opinions. As fan I do feel that shit is stupid when Nas said that ‘hiphop is dead’ and people like Jim Jones goes and says, “Hiphop died and I got a the will,” boasting about his riches. The genre has gotten money hungry. Too money hungry. Hiphop is a now a vehicle to riches with everyone from Pretty Ricky to Lil Romeo coming out with clothing lines. It was cool when Puffy and Jay-Z did it cause it was innovative. No one is innovating anymore, they are following too much. ‘Clothing makes him money, it’s gonna make me money.’ “’Lean wit, Rock it’ was a money maker!, let me cash out on the ‘Shoulder Lean’, or ‘Chicken Noodle Soup,’ or fuck it, keep it simple and let just ‘Walk it out’.” Everyone needs money though, so I guess it’s smart to capitalize on what’s “hot” to kids that think they are something they are not or never will be. There’s good music out there though, don’t get me wrong. It’s not like driving in that black civic though. It’s not the same no more shit’s done changed for sure…

great post cousin, nothing defined cool for me back in those days more than the sounds that came out of those speakers in that boxy, squished, slammed, tuckin' civic 4 door. you guys may say that I lost the faith, and perhaps I did, but that's because what hip hop was slowly started drifting away from what we loved, into something that was just soulless. Hip Hop died with the end of the boom bap. Nerd rap killed it IMO. haha and i'll still listen to some hiphop to impress chicks..bitch! lol happy birthday again homie
